Aesthetic Gum Treatments - Precision That Shapes the Smile
The appearance of your smile isn’t just about your teeth. The shape, thickness, and symmetry of your gum tissue play a major role in how natural and balanced everything looks.
Small differences in gum position or contour can change the entire appearance of a smile—and those details require precision to correct.
Aesthetic gum treatment is often used to address:
-
Uneven or excessive gum display (“gummy smile”)
-
Gum recession or exposed root surfaces
-
Thin or fragile gum tissue
-
Dark or uneven gum pigmentation
-
Asymmetry around crowns, veneers, or implants
These changes are often subtle—but they have a significant impact on how natural a smile looks.
This Is Not Just Cosmetic
Aesthetic gum treatment isn’t just about appearance.
The thickness and stability of the tissue also affect long-term health—especially around teeth and implants.
Treatment is designed to improve both:
The way the smile looks
And the long-term support of the underlying structures
That balance is what creates results that not only look natural—but last.
Procedures Used to Refine the Gum Line:
• Gum Grafting – Tissue grafting is used to cover exposed roots, reduce sensitivity, and restore areas affected by recession or longer-appearing teeth. It can also be used to improve symmetry within the smile.
Dr. Mondlick utilizes a range of advanced techniques—including tunneling, VISTA, and the Pinhole Surgical Technique—along with modern grafting materials such as connective tissue, donated tissue, and Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) to support natural, stable results.
• Gum Lifts (Crown Lengthening) – Adjusting the gum line can improve the proportions of the teeth and create a more balanced appearance. In some cases, excess gum tissue covers part of the natural tooth structure. Carefully reshaping this tissue allows for full tooth display and a more harmonious smile.
• Bone Grafting – Bone grafting is used to rebuild areas of bone loss around teeth or implants. This can improve support, reduce food trapping, and create a more stable foundation for long-term health.
In some cases, bone grafting is also necessary to prepare an area for future implant placement.
• Gum Pigmentation Removal – Dark or uneven pigmentation of the gums can be visible when you smile and affect overall aesthetics. Treatment can reduce or remove these areas to create a more even, natural appearance of the gum tissue.
• Management of Gum Inflammation – Inflamed or swollen gum tissue can appear red, uneven, and unhealthy, even around otherwise well-restored teeth. Treatment focuses on reducing inflammation and restoring healthy, stable gum tissue that supports both appearance and long-term oral health.
Aesthetic outcomes depend on precise control of both hard and soft tissue—not just removing or adding gum, but shaping it in a way that blends naturally with the surrounding teeth.
